Project Sirius: The Witcher Game’s Next Installment Gets a Stunning Makeover

CD PROJEKT S.A., a leading video game developer and publisher based in Warsaw, announced today that it will write off 42.9 million PLN (about 10.6 million USD) of development costs related to Project Sirius, a game project that is being developed by The Molasses Flood studio. The company said that the impairment allowance reflects its assessment of the original concept of Project Sirius and its commercial potential, and that it is working on a new framework for the project.

The impairment allowance will affect the company's financial results for the year 2022 and the first quarter of 2023. According to the company's statement, 33.4 million PLN of development costs were incurred by the end of 2022 and will be recognized in the annual financial report for 2022. Another 9.5 million PLN of development costs were incurred in January and February 2023 and will be recognized in the quarterly financial report for Q1 2023.

Project Sirius is one of several game projects that CD PROJEKT S.A. has invested in as part of its strategy to diversify its portfolio and collaborate with external studios. The Molasses Flood is an independent game studio based in Boston, Massachusetts, known for its critically acclaimed games The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow.

What is Project Sirius 

 Project Sirius: The Next Witcher Game is a codename for a new game set in The Witcher universe, developed by The Molasses Flood with support from CD Projekt Red. It was announced in October 2022 as an innovative take on The Witcher series, offering multiplayer gameplay on top of a single-player experience with a campaign, quests and a story . The game is currently in pre-production and has more than 60 people working on it. No release date has been confirmed yet.
