Nowadays, it's become commonplace for video games to require players to be online even when playing single player, and Redfall is no exception.

Despite being able to play solo, the game still needs to be connected to the internet at all times, which has been criticized.

However, the game director, Harvey Smith during an interview with Eurogamer, he said understands where players are coming from and acknowledges that they are actively working to address the issue. He explains that the decision to make the game always online was not to provide access to a microtransaction store, as some have speculated, but rather a technical and accessibility issue on their backend.

Nevertheless, they are trying to find a way to change it, and while he cannot make any promises, he assures players that they are working on it.
